Head-on crash kills woman in Delaware

GREENVILLE, Del. - April 15, 2011

It happened around 8:00 p.m. Friday night on Lancaster Pike near Downes Drive in Greenville, Delaware.

Police say an eastbound Honda crossed the center line and slammed into an SUV. The Honda was sheered in half.

The driver of the Honda, 22-year-old Jessica B. Richey, of Hockessin, Delaware, was ejected onto the roadway and killed instantly.

A 21-year-old Claymont, Delaware woman, who was a passenger in Richey's vehicle, was transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where she is being treated for the injuries she sustained in the crash.

The occupants of the SUV were all taken to Christiana as well. The driver is identified as 58-year-old Jeanette DeBright, of Wilmington. Police say a six-year-old passenger in DeBright's SUV, is also hospitalized.

The investigation into this crash is on-going at the time. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, however, investigators say it appears that speed was a contributing factor.

All individual involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

DE Rt. 48 was closed for approximately 4 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
