Bensalem fire company suspension may spur lawsuit

BENSALEM, Pa. - June 16, 2011

Bensalem Public Safety Director Fred Harran held a public meeting Thursday night to explain his suspension of the Union Volunteer Fire Company.

He said it is a concern over safety.

He said the company's leadership repeatedly ignored instructions in operational situations for more than a year.

The Union Fire Company says Harran had personal motives for his decision, involving a dispute with its fire chief.

It says it might file a lawsuit.

Harran said the company's duties would be safely covered by other fire companies.
