Once again Center City and University City was saturated with police patrolling the streets and enforcing the new 9:00pm curfew for any one 17 and under.
It is a tough new measure brought on by the city in response to violent flash mobs.
There were many first offenders brought in to the 6th Police District where their parents were called and then given a warning.
"For every subsequent violation after that there is a fine," says Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey. "Hopefully there is no more than one time, and people will wake up and realize they have to wake up and pay attention to what is going on."
Parents could face fines of up to $500 if their child violates the curfew a second time.
Friday night found many kids 17 and under going home, unhappy with the few bad apples that ruined it for everyone.
"I don't think that's fair," said Noel Lopez. "Kids should have freedom. They shouldn't have to be stuck in the house."
"I think it's good that the cops are cracking down on the flash mobs, because I don't like that," said Jennifer Williams. "But I don't like the curfew. It's ridiculous to me."
Other visitors to Center City were glad to see all of the cops and the curfew being enforced.
"I think that it is going to make people safe now," said John Prempeh.
"It makes me feel safe, but I did change my plans, because everyone seems on edge. There is like uneasiness in the air," said Isabella Stellani.
Mantua Against Drugs and Violence town watch group was also out helping police patrol the streets and was joined by complete strangers, both black and white, who also wanted to help.
"We're very proud of the city of Philadelphia, and the Mayor asked for help," said Jim Kellet.
"I'm just trying to show that all young people are not the same," said Kevin Williams, "and that I didn't come out here to be a part of the problem but a part of the solution."
As an alternative to the young people being in the streets, the city is keeping many recreation centers open as late as 10:00pm over the weekend with activities for those 17 and under.
Philadelphia's violent flash mobs may have triggered copycat incidents in other parts of the country, bringing national attention to the city's new curfew plan.
In Center City, the enforcement zone is from Vine Street south to Bainbridge, and from the Delaware River to the Schuylkill River. In University City, the zone is from Market to Baltimore and from 38th to 42d street.
The curfew starts Friday night and runs through Monday.
