Bucks Co. mom arrested after child burned

BENSALEM, Pa. - December 9, 2011

Andrea Amaya, 24, of the 3100 block of Knights Road in Bensalem, was arrested at her home on Friday morning.

Police say she had been the target of an investigation that began back on November 3rd.

Investigators say it was on that day when Amaya's 3-year-old daughter was brought to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia with a third-degree burn to her right hand.

That burn required skin grafts to heal.

The girl also had severe bruising throughout her body, police say.

Investigators say they determined that the child was severely abused, neglected, and malnourished by her mother.

The girl is currently thriving in a foster facility with Bucks County Children and Youth, police say, and Amaya's five other children are also in foster care.

Andrea Amaya was arraigned by Judge Brown and sent to Bucks County Prison on $200,000 bail.
