It happened around 8:00 p.m. along Capital Trail on Pike Creek Road in New Castle County.
Police say the man, believed to be in his 30s and his canine were hit by an SUV.
The man was rushed to Christiana Hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.
The dog was taken to a nearby veterinarian hospital. No word on its condition.
Delaware State Police are investigating.
