Pa. clinics brace for new standards for abortions

HARRISBURG, Pa. - December 21, 2011

The requirements are contained in a bill that Gov. Tom Corbett could sign this week.

Jennifer Boulanger of the Allentown Women's Center says there isn't a clinic in Pennsylvania that currently complies with the tougher regulations, and she and others contest claims by the legislation's supporters that the regulations will improve health and safety.

They say it'll be up to the state Department of Health on how to apply regulations that include things like expanding hallways, rooms and elevator shafts.

Some clinic operators say they're not sure how they'll afford the cost, and point out that they're already subject to regulations and unannounced inspections.
