Corbett: Chester Upland students will finish year

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett says students in a school district on the brink of shutting down for lack of money will be able to finish the school year in the district.

Corbett and Senate Republican Leader Dominic Pileggi issued a joint statement late Friday that they were working on a comprehensive plan to address problems at the Chester Upland School District in Chester.

Corbett says he'll meet with Delaware County lawmakers on the topic on Monday, while Pileggi plans a forum for parents at the administration building later in the week.

The district sued the state in federal court last week, saying it was perilously close to running out of cash. Since then, it's been granted a $3.2 million advance on a state subsidy due in June.
