The robbery happened around 9:20 a.m. at the PNC Bank in the Newark Shopping Center at 230 East Main Street.
Police say the man entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money.
The teller turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled the bank on foot towards the area of the shopping center.
The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, standing about 5'10" tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He also had a scruffy beard, a "rough" complexion and glasses.
In addition to the tan fedora hat and plaid sports coat, the man also wore a white polo shirt, khaki pants and black boots.
