It was Monday night, September 5, 2011. 61-year-old Howard Hunter was found shot to death inside his second floor apartment at 35 north Wiota Street in the Powelton section of Philadelphia.
An unidentified woman was also found dead of gunshot wounds.
Police recovered at least 10 shell casings, but no murder weapon.
Police have no suspects and no motive for the killings. They are calling it a true murder mystery.
That is why the city is offering a hefty reward.
"We're posting $1,000 for an arrest and conviction, and the city has posted up to $20,000. We've got to get these people off the street. They are dangerous and a menace to society," said John Apeldorn.
Hunter renovated homes for a living, and his employer and neighbors who knew him say he was well liked and a hard worker.
A $21,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction in this case.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS or the Philadelphia Police at 215-686-TIPS. Calls will remain anonymous.
