NJ man says he was fired for helping in Sandy rescue

RIVERSIDE, N.J. - November 26, 2012

But Robert Campolongo's boss says the problem is not that he pitched in, but that he did not tell him.

Campolongo is a longtime volunteer firefighter in Riverside who had started working as a driver for L&C Specialized Carriers in Delran four weeks before the storm arrived.

He tells the Burlington County Times he went to his fire station on Oct. 29 and ended up helping with storm rescues in Ocean County.

When boss Cliff Cini could not reach him the next day to help deliver emergency generators to storm-ravaged areas, he fired him.
