Authorities say a man working for a private company that was cleaning up debris spawned by Superstorm Sandy has been killed in a job-related accident.

Brick police say that 69-year-old Paul Friedauer of Long Branch had just walked on to a roadway to help with traffic control when he was struck by a car around 8:20 a.m. Friday.

Friedauer, who was working for Jackson-based Glenside Equipment Co., was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

The car that hit Friedauer was driven by Karl Scheufler, a 42-year-old Brick resident. He was not injured in the accident and has not been charged.

The accident remains under investigation.
