Mother of Vineland teen killed in car crash speaks

VINELAND, N.J. - November 13, 2013

Nicole Redfern, the mother of 14-year-old Jermire Lowery, spoke to our partners at Univision Wednesday.

The teen was one of five juveniles in a car driven by a 17-year-old who hit a parked truck on Monday.

The others survived.

Lowery's death is the second for a student at Vineland High School North in just two weeks after Alexa Strittmatter was hit and killed while walking to a bus stop.

Redfern says she spoke to her son about Alexa's death.

"He said it was horrible. He said he would hate to get hit by a car and die," said Redfern. "I'm numb."

Lowery's friends on Twitter say a candlelight vigil is planned for Thursday night at 6:30 at 3rd Street Park.
