Father, daughter injured on SEPTA platform

PHILADELPHIA - November 16, 2013

Authorities say a 1-year-old girl was struck by a subway train in Philadelphia and is in the hospital with significant head injuries.

Transit officials say a man holding the child was standing too close to the edge of the platform just outside of downtown Philadelphia as the train approached around 8:00 p.m. Friday.

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority spokesman Andrew Busch says the girl was struck in the head and rushed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

She was rushed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where she is listed in serious condition with a broken eye socket, but officials say she is expected to recover.

The father suffered minor injuries. He was treated and released from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
