The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. on November 7th in the 6000 block of Woodland Avenue.
Police say the victim and another person were walking down the street when a car pulled up next to them.
Investigators say the suspect, 28-year-old Sayha Thach, demanded money from inside the car.
The victim refused and kept walking.
Police say Thach drove off but retuned a few minutes later and got out of the car, holding a large machete.
When the victim tried to run, police say Thach chased him down and hit him in the head and hand with the machete.
The victim suffered cuts and bruises.
Thach was arrested two days later when detectives spotted the car.
Thach, of the 2100 block of South 64th Street, is charged with robbery and related offenses.
