Marcus Hook mayor convicted in gun case has resigned

MARCUS HOOK, Pa. (AP) - December 3, 2013

The Delaware County Daily Times reports Marcus Hook Mayor James "Jay" Schiliro submitted a resignation letter before Monday's borough council meeting.

The 39-year-old faces sentencing Jan. 13, but must first undergo psychosexual and psychological examinations, and drug and alcohol evaluations.

He was convicted last month of having an on-duty police officer drive the young man to Schiliro's home, where the former mayor gave the young man three glasses of wine before asking him to consent to a sex act.

Schiliro pulled a gun and became distraught when the man refused and wouldn't let the young man leave for a time.
