It happened at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday at the Inn of the Dove motel in the 700 block of Cuthbert Boulevard.
Surveillance video shows the suspect jumping through a window separating the motel lobby from the office area.
The man grabs the female clerk, who police say was alone at the time, forcing her to the ground.
He then steals money from the cash register and flees on foot.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 35 years old with a full beard.
