Police search for suspect in West Oak Lane bar robbery

PHILADELPHIA - December 20, 2013

Police say an unknown man entered the Whispers Inn at 7610 Ogontz Avenue on Wednesday just after 12:00 p.m., orders a drink at the bar and lingers while talking on a cell phone.

He leaves the bar but returns a short time later and produces a handgun.

Police say the suspect pointed the gun at the employee before walking behind the bar and taking money from at least two registers.

According to police, the suspect's gun goes off narrowly missing the employee and other patrons.

The suspect got away with close to $600 before he fled on foot. He was last seen traveling south on Ogontz Avenue.

He is described as a black male in his 20's, 5'6 to 5'7" tall, with medium brown complexion, with a medium build and mustache.

He was wearing a black heavy down jacket, black knit hat with a red insignia, and black pants and brown Timberland style boots.
