DOVER, Del. - February 28, 2014
It happened Wednesday before 3:00 p.m. on southbound Route 1 north of the Scarborough Road exit.
Delaware State troopers say they stopped a 2013 Dodge Avenger for speeding and found 454 grams of marijuana in the car.
They arrested the driver, 30-year-old Marques Purnell of Newark, Delaware and a passenger, Jermaine Durrant, 28, of New York City.
Several hours later detectives searched Purnell's home in the unit block of Greenridge Road in Newark.
As they approached, a 1996 Nissan Maxima was leaving the house. Troopers pursued the car. The driver eventually jumped out and fled and on foot, police say.
The driver, 20-year-old Horace Johnson turned himself into police on Friday and was charged.
Back at Purnell's home, police say detectives found 11 pounds of marijuana, 56 bags of heroin, a sawed-off shotgun, cash and drug paraphernalia.
23-year-old Kevon Walters and 20-year-old Amanda Haden, who were in the home when police arrived, were arrested.

Committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $66,000 secured bond.
Marques Purnell, 30, of Newark, DE - Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 1 Quantity, Conspiracy Second Degree, Conspiracy Third Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving while Suspended or Revoked,Speeding. Released on $16,301 unsecured bail.
Jermaine Durrant, 28, of New York, NY - Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 1 Quantity, Conspiracy Second Degree, Conspiracy Third Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Released on $16,200 unsecured bail.
Kevon Walters, 23, of Bronx, NY - Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 1 Quantity, Conspiracy Second Degree. Committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $15,000 secured bail.
Amanda Haden, 20, of Wilmington, DE - Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 1 Quantity, Conspiracy Second Degree. Committed to Baylor Women's Correctional Institute on $4,000 secured bond.
