ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- A fire in Atlantic City, New Jersey has destroyed several businesses and left seventeen people displaced.
Fire officials tell Action News the blaze broke out at 10:09 p.m. Tuesday in the AC Alterations business on the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue.
It quickly spread to adjoining businesses with apartments on the second floors.
Crews battled the multi-alarm fire as the roof collapsed in one of the buildings.
Everyone managed to get out of the buildings safely.
17 people, including 6 children, were displaced. The Red Cross is assisting the victims.
Firefighters were still on the scene hosing down hot spots more than seven hours after the fire began.
Fire officials told Action News high wind gusts hampered efforts to fight the fire.
Investigators were working to determine what sparked the blaze.
