PENNINGTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- A New Jersey hospital is using groundbreaking treatment to fight brain cancer.

Capital Health in Pennington is testing the procedure on patients, including Luis Rodriguez of Vineland.

Doctors have been delivering high doses of the chemotherapy drug Avastin to his brain through a tiny catheter in his leg.

The drug flows naturally through his blood and straight to the tumor, sparing healthy tissue.

Rodriguez and his wife say the treatment has made a dramatic difference.

"They were able to give him his life back. And so since that, he's been preparing his own meals, helping us with the kids, things like that. He's actually been functioning very well," Echnamy Coss Rodriguez said.

"I feel better now the last 3 months than I did 4 months ago," Luis Rodriguez said.

Doctors say this is the best progress they've seen in a patient fighting this type of terminal brain cancer.
