Facebook confirms it listens to chats on Messenger app

Facebook has confirmed it hired outside contractors to listen to and transcribe audio chats of users on its Messenger app.

The company says it wanted to be sure the voice messages were being correctly interpreted.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, the contractors found listening to people's conversations "unethical."

Facebook says it has since ended the practice.
