Bus stop upgrades in Philadelphia
Fewer bus and trolley passengers will have to stand in the rain or snow

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Fewer bus and trolley passengers will have to stand in the rain or snow as they wait for their rides in Philadelphia.

That's because the city is planning to double the number of transit shelters, with 600 new ones going in over the next 5 years.

Mayor Michael Nutter helped to unveil the first new one Wednesday, at the corner of Broad Street, and Cecil B. Moore Avenue.

SEPTA will take rider suggestions about where to put the rest of them.

Meantime the existing ones will also be replaced with a new, more sleek design.
