CIGNA is one of the nation's biggest health insurers, and says it will stop covering Oxycontin prescriptions on its employer-based plans.
The company says customers who have started it for cancer or hospice care are exempt.
Other patients will be switched to Xtampsa.
CIGNA says it deters abuse - maintaining a constant dosage, even if it's crushed.
The maker of OxyContin says both drugs have similar properties, and the move is a financial one.
