NEPTUNE, N.J. -- New Jersey has launched an ad campaign and website targeting opiate addiction.

Thursday's announcement by the Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse represents the implementation of the first of the recommendations contained in a task force report released in March.

The ads seek to show that no one is immune from addiction to heroin and prescription drugs.

Officials plan to use billboard ads during the summer months, especially along the Jersey shore, which has seen a rise in opiate addiction deaths. The ads will bear the message: "Your medicine cabinet could be a gateway to heroin."

The KnowAddiction.nj.gov website will connect visitors to addiction resources.
