Dog saved from kill-shelter twice reunited with family

MARLTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- MOMs, also known as Making of Miracle Stories Rescue, arrived in Marlton, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon to hand deliver pets to their new families.

Each of the animals was saved from death row.

"We're not just bringing dogs up and saying, 'Gather round - take a puppy.' They all have preselected rescues they're going to and then they are adopted out through those rescues," said Karen Talbot, MOMs Rescue.

In this group of anxious pet lovers was Ginny Shaner.

Five years ago, Shaner was caring for her son's dog, Peanut, while he was serving in the Army overseas.

Somehow, a couple of years ago, Peanut ended up in a kill shelter in Georgia.

He escaped death twice while Ginny's other son Zach, who lives in Indiana, spent months looking for him.

With the help of that rescue group, Zach tracked down Peanut.

"Zach said that he was going to change all of his plans and fly in for this reunion," said Talbot.

"I was excited to see Peanut and I was also excited to see my son," said Shaner.

Peanut, a corgi mix, also spent time with Zach over the years while his brother was serving.

And while he was so grateful for MOMs rescue for saving Peanut, Zach was just thankful to see his own mom and surprise her.

"In typical fashion, she was worked up and she was crying. But she's happy and she was surprised and that's what we were going for," said Zach Allen.

Shaner now lives in York, Pa. now. She says she can't wait to spend more time with Zach and Peanut and reunite the dog with her other son - his original owner.
