Route 70 reopens after gas leak in Cherry Hill, N.J.
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (WPVI) -- Traffic is back to normal in Cherry Hill at the site of a gas main break early Friday morning.
It all started around 12:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Route 70 near Curtis Avenue.
There have been nightly road closures here for roadwork.
PSE&G says early Friday morning one of their crews was completing work on a project for the New Jersey Department of Transportation when a 2-inch natural gas main was cut.
Heavy equipment was hauled in to get beneath the surface of the road for repairs.
The eastbound lanes of Route 70 were completely closed between Curtis Ave. and Grove St. for the early morning hours.
Traffic getting by in one westbound lane.
By 7:30 a.m., though, all westbound lanes were back open along with one eastbound lane.
By 9 a.m. crews had filled in the hole in the road.
They smoothed out the surface, and the inner eastbound lane was back open 10:40 a.m.
No evacuations were necessary during the incident.
PSE&G says natural gas customers in the area experienced no service disruptions.
