Pedestrian struck, killed on New Jersey Turnpike in Hamilton Twp. identified

HAMILTON TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- State police have identified the pedestrian struck and killed on the New Jersey Turnpike early Monday.

25-year-old Masud Mustafa of Chesterfield, N.J. was struck at 4 a.m. Monday in the northbound lanes near Exit 7 in Hamilton Township.

Police say he was trying to cross the turnpike on foot when he was hit by a white box truck.

The driver stopped nearby and remained at the scene.

Mustafa was pronounced dead at the scene.

The left truck lane of the turnpike was closed as police investigated.

Accident investigators were working to determine why Mustafa was crossing the highway on foot.
