WEST CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- A man who was under arrest managed to bring heroin into prison by hiding it in his hair, authorities say.

Jarrett Mason was arrested on drug charges in Phoenixville on July 15.

On July 19, investigators say another inmate reported that Mason was distributing heroin in the prison.

He was then searched and, authorities say, he was found to be hiding the heroin inside his body.

"Desperate people do dangerous and dumb things," District Attorney Tom Hogan said. "The scourge of heroin hits everywhere, from streets to homes to prisons. This defendant just made a bad situation for himself much, much worse."

Mason has been charged with the felony offenses of furnishing contraband and drug dealing in a prison, as well as related charges.
