Street closures, preps underway for Made in America

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Street closures have begun and preparations are in full swing for the Made in America concert this weekend in Center City Philadelphia.

Closures have been going into effect all week, and the entire site on the Ben Franklin Parkway in front of the Art Museum will shut down at 10 a.m. Friday.

"So that the fence can be constructed, and the rest of the stage can be built in that area," said Chief Inspector Frank Vanore of the Philadelphia Police Department.

The closures will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5.

The cost of admission is $162 for a two-day ticket. In the past, the fenced-off event on the Ben Franklin Parkway has attracted 140,000 paying fans.

The five-stage festival is the brainchild of music mogul Jay-Z.

While the draw for so many people is music and shared good times, officials must also take into consideration possible threats in a world where even trucks are being used as weapons against high-profile targets.

"Anytime we have an event, whether it's an Eagles game, a Phillies parade, there's a homeland security aspect for our security plan," said Vanore. "It's the times we live in."

The Made in America concert will be held on Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3.
