Americans averaging nearly $40 a month more for prescriptions

Americans are getting slammed by sticker shock at the pharmacy.

A poll by Consumer Reports says one third are paying an extra $39 for their prescriptions now and 1 in 10 say they are paying $100 or more out-of-pocket.

The medications showing the most prices hikes are for asthma, high blood pressure, and heart rhythms irregularities.

Those hit with the higher prices say they are cutting back on other spending, such as food, credit card usage, and even postponing bill payments.

Some new drugs are packing big price tags, such as the newly-approved cholesterol drug Praluent.

The wholesale price is $11-hundred 28 dollars a month.

Consumer Reports says to cut your drug costs, consider alternate cheaper medications, including generics, use mail order services, or check with your insurance company about preferred pharmacies.
