After 8 years, quadriplegic moves arm with his thoughts

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Experimental technology is helping a quadriplegic man move his arm again, for the first time in 8 years.

Bill Kochevar can raise a mug of water and drink from a straw, just by thinking.

It's all due to a brain-computer interface in the works at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Kochevar's brain signals go through the interface, bypassing his injured spinal cord, telling his arm & hand muscles to move.

The interface is part of BrainGate2, a nationwide trial of brain-computer bridges.

Kochevar, who was paralyzed in a cycling accident, says the moment was even better than he dreamed.
