Local app seen on Shark Tank gaining popularity with realtors
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A local entrepreneur who pitched his new invention on ABC's Shark Tank last week is seeing his product being put to use.
The head of a local realty company has armed his agents with the personal security apps, seen on the show.
Real estate agents like Pam Thistle are the first locally to use the EmergenSee app.
Phil Reitnour founded the company that offers the app which streams live video, audio, and GPS locations from your cell phone.
The murder of a realtor in Arkansas three weeks ago and the local rape of a real estate agent has realtors in Philadelphia focusing on safety.
And while most are taking steps to ensure their employees are kept from harm, or potentially dangerous situations, Mike McCann, an associate broker with Berkshire Hathaway, Fox and Roach in the city, is the first to provide all of his real estate agents with EmergenSee apps.
"It's a big concern in our industry right now. There have been some attacks on realtors," McCann said.
In Arkansas , 51-year-old real estate agent, Beverly Carter was kidnapped and then killed after showing a home in Little Rock.
She was a victim of the dangers of a solitary profession that often involves meeting strangers in sometimes vacant properties at a moment's notice.
"If they're feeling nervous, they just tap the app and automatically it starts streaming live audio, video, and GPS to their trusted contacts," Sandra Frick, Marketing Director of EmergenSee, said.
EmergenSee has several of levels of services for it app.
