Phillies sign Grady Sizemore to minor league contract

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies have signed outfielder Grady Sizemore to a minor league contract, the team announced Tuesday.

Sizemore will report to AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs on Thursday.

Sizemore, 31, began the season with the Boston Red Sox and batted .216 with 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 15 RBI in 52 games.

Sizemore is a three-time American League All-Star (2006-08) and two-time AL Gold Glove Award winner (2007-08),

Sizemore was originally selected by the Montreal Expos in the third round of the 2000 draft. He was traded to the Cleveland Indians in June 2002, along with left-hander and current Phillie Cliff Lee, second baseman Brandon Phillips and first baseman Lee Stevens in exchange for right-handers Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew.

Sizemore is a career .266 hitter with 226 doubles, 45 triples, 141 home runs, 473 RBI and 139 stolen bases in 944 games for the Indians (2004-11) and Red Sox (2014).

In 2008, he won a Silver Slugger Award after hitting .268 with 39 doubles, 33 home runs and 90 RBI.
