NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- Delaware police are investigating after a school bus and a car collided in Newark.

The accident happened around 6:55 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Salem Church Road.

Police say a 1999 Toyota Corolla, operated by 49-year-old Ahmad J. Abdullah, was traveling eastbound on Old Baltimore Pike.

Abdullah then attempted to make a left turn on Salem Church Road. As he approached the intersection, police say he failed to stop at the red light.

Fifty-five-year-old John Ewasko was operating a 2013 International School bus, traveling westbound on Old Baltimore Pike.

Police say Ewasko swerved in an attempt to avoid the Corolla, but the vehicles collided, coming to a stop on the shoulder of Old Baltimore Pike.

Abdullah, a 13-year-old female passenger of the Corolla and Ewasko were all treated on the scene, and then taken to Christiana Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Abdullah was cited for failure to stop at a red light.

All 37 children on the bus, from 7th to 12th grades, were uninjured.

The road was closed to traffic during the investigation.
