Trapped firefighters escape with minor injuries

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - January 5, 2008 The firefighters escaped with minor injuries.

Five Points fire company spokesman Tom Mitten says residents of the building in Alban Park in Wilmington all got out safe Saturday morning before firefighters went to the second floor. That's when flames burned through their hose line and they issued a "mayday" call.

Mitten says the rapid intervention team used ground ladders and the inside staircase to get the trapped firefighters out. The operation took about five minutes.

The firefighters were treated separately for thermal burns, a fractured or dislocated wrist, shortness of breath and minor chest pains before being taken to a hospital.
