Town seeks Silly String ban

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - January 8, 2008

The issue: a claim that the plastic goo mars the finish on fire trucks during parades.

Town spokeswoman Fran Evans said a public hearing Tuesday night would focus on a proposal to ban Silly String "or similar gaseous, liquid or semi-liquid product or substances" during "parades, processions, fairs and expositions."

An official for Silly String manufacturer Just for Kicks did not immediately return a call for comment.

The stuff also has been used by American and British forces to detect trip wires for booby traps in Iraq and Afghanistan.
