Vandals target vehicles with b-b gun

Newark, Del. - March 6, 2008 Outside his home today, Charles Word surveyed the damage to four family vehicles. Two of them belong to his children. The windows were shot out overnight by hoodlums using a bb-gun.

New Castle County Police have received 40 complaints so far today, of cars having their windows shot out or damaged by a BB gun. The vandalism happened between 1:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Vandals targeted vehicles in Sycamore Gardens, Newkirk Estates, windy Hills, Harmony Woods and Robscott Manor.

Police say the vandals began their shooting spree on Saturday morning. That's when police received reports of 17 cars having windows shot out in Sycamore Gardens and Newkirk Estates. Then on Tuesday, March 4th, police handled four more complaints in Harmony Woods

Newark Police received their first complaint came at about 1:30 a.m. as well. One witness in Newark, reported seeing a small gray or silver, 4 door car with a loud muffler fleeing an area where the vandalism occurred.

Most of the neighborhoods hit are off of Route 273. Newark Police say most of the vandalism occurred in the neighborhood of Stafford. New Castle County Police are investigating vandalism in the neighborhoods of Newkirk Estates, Windy Hills, Sycamore Gardens, Elmwood and Sherwood Forrest.

The out of pocket expenses to cover repair bills will be enormous because of insurance company deductibles. It's hitting a whole lot of law-abiding people in these communities very hard.

A witness who saw the suspects' car say it was a foreign-made, gray or silver four-door with a loud muffler.
