Town to vote on silly string ban

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - March 4, 2008

A public hearing on the resolution is set for Tuesday, with the council voting on it later in the day. A decision would come days before the town's St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday.

The resolution was proposed because the town claims the product - a colored liquid fired as a stream from an aerosol can - mars the finish on fire trucks.

Manufacturer Just for Kicks has said it's not familiar with the fire truck claim, but that the label includes cleaning instructions.

Silly String has been banned under anti-littering laws along parade routes in Connecticut, Louisiana, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Texas.
