Services held for fallen firefighter

LOWER CHICHESTER, Pa. - March 10, 2008 Tonight, family, friends and the community came out to pay their respects to 35 year old Nick Picozzi.

Today, Picozzi's widow Stephanie and their two sons, ages 11 and 13, welcomed hundreds of others at the Holy Savior Church.

They were joined by fire companies from across the region, who'd made the journey out of respect for their fallen comrade.

Picozzi died last Wednesday morning while fighting a 3 alarm fire at a home in Upper Chichester.

Today, dozens of Picozzi's neighbors also paid their respects.

Some have known Picozzi since he was a little boy.

Joan Mellace, of Wilmington, Delaware, said she has fond memories of the father of two. " I knew Nickie since he was about 5 or 6 years old. He was the sweetest and kindest little boy you ever wanted to meet."

Laurie Laskey, of Lower Chichester, has known Picozzi since high school.

She said he had a giving spirit.

" Always had a smile on his face. He could joke around but, he'd be willing to do anything for you, even back then."
