Prison escape Hollywood style

ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - March 11, 2008

Otis Blunt and Jose Espinosa dug a hole in a cinder block cell wall and covered it up with a pinup poster, as was done in the film. In mid-December, they piled sheets under their blankets to make it seem like they were there sleeping. They squeezed through the wall, got on a roof and jumped a 25-foot fence topped with razor wire.

Officials say they left a taunting note thanking a guard, a man who later committed suicide. Both inmates were captured in January. Espinosa was found near the jail. Blunt made it to Mexico City.

They entered not guilty pleas to third-degree escape.

Espinosa is serving a 17-year sentence for aggravated manslaughter. Blunt is facing robbery and weapons charges.
