Fake pipe bomb used in bank robbery

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - March 14, 2008 Police say that a white man with a limp walked into the Prudential Savings Bank at 18th and Oregon around 9:45 this morning. The suspect handed the teller a note demanding cash.

When he left the suspect placed a pipe on the counter. Fearing it was a bomb, all of the workers were evacuated from the building.

The Philadelphia bomb squad disposed of the device. They determined the bomb was a hoax.

Police say that the man dropped the bag with the money in it at 19th and Johnston Street because of the dye pack going off.

The suspect remains on the loose.
