Hit and run kills mother of three

WILMINGTON, Del. - April 25, 2008 Noretta Whye was hit on 4th Street near Franklin Street in Wilmington at 1:30 Friday morning. Whye lived in nearby Van Buren Street .

"She was a young mother trying to take care of three girls in the city," Ruth McMillion, the victim's mother, said.

Police think a security camera caught the dark colored SUV moments before it slammed into Whye and sped off.

It's thought to be a 2 door Ford Explorer, not the more common 4 door model, with front end damage to the passenger side.

Given the less common 2 door design, police are hoping someone will recognize the vehicle.

Police do have some leads, including pieces of the SUV, but the victim's grieving family hopes that someone will be moved to call the police with more information.

Calls can be made to the Delaware Crime Stopper line at 1-800-TIP-3333.
