Hostage drama ends inside Delaware prison

WILMINGTON, Del. - May 15, 2008 Corrections commissioner Carl Danberg said the investigation into Wednesday's incident at the Howard Young Correctional Institution is continuing, but that it does not appear to involve staff complacency or violation of prison policies.

The hostage taker, 22-year-old Sye Newton, was captured after a prison response team used a flash-bang grenade to stun him. He has been charged with kidnapping, assault in a detention facility, and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

Officials said the victim required three stitches after being cut on his shoulder after being taken hostage, but was otherwise unharmed.
