Jim Conan is a retired state trooper and a sometime actor.

However, you won't see him on the stage or screen.

But you might find him in a hospital exam room.

Conan is a fake patient who helps train medical students at the University of Vermont.

The profs say the pretend patients give the doctors-to-be needed experience in everything from clinical exams to communicating with a frightened person.

Conan says he can really see how the med students grow as their training progresses.
