Washington dentist's staff saddles up to beat gas costs

ARLINGTON, Wash. (AP) - June 27, 2008

Since Doctor Keith Leonard and more than half his dental assistants and office staff own horses, they decided to saddle up this week and hoof it to work.

Ten riders and two bicyclists met up at the doctor's home four miles outside Arlington, Washington, for the commute. City officials gave them a special permit to ride as a group.

Doctor Leonard says it's a way to encourage his patients to use alternative transportation. For him, he says, it's one horse power.
