Williamsport's only Airline says Service wil End in October

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - July 1, 2008 US Airways says it will stop its five daily round trips to Philadelphia in early October. Those are the only scheduled passenger flights Williamsport has.

But airport executive director Thomas Hart says the situation isn't as bleak as it might appear. He says Williamsport meets the U.S. government's definition of an "essential air service" airport. That means the federal government will subsidize flights to Williamsport if need be. Hart says no one has used federal subsidies in the past to serve Williamsport, but it may start soon.
