N.J. town considers plastic bag ban

RED BANK, N.J. (AP) - August 12, 2008 The Red Bank Council introduced an ordinance Monday that would fine businesses who use them $100, starting Jan. 1. Businesses could sell reusable plastic shopping bags.

The council estimates it costs the town 17 cents a bag to dispose of the shopping bags.

A public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 25.
