Hawks eyeing a winning opener

That is what most likely is going through the minds of the Council Rock South Hawks, when they are told of how their northern brethren performed in their Game of the Week last year.

Where Council Rock North did not succeed, Council Rock South is looking to prevail. North lost 16-9 to Norristown during the October 12, 2007 Game of the Week. However, on the August 29, 2008 Game of the Week, Vince Bedesem's Golden Hawks are eyeing to put a line in their win column and get off on the right foot.

Last season did not start off the way the Hawks would have liked it. They lost the opening game to Central Bucks South 34-24 and one week later, and by one point, lost to Bensalem 22-21.

Losing by one point left Bedesem's squadron with a bad taste in their mouth. They got a refreshing win the next week when they defeated Conwell-Egan Catholic 42-13.

The salvation of victory would elude the Hawks the next week in crippling fashion when they could not score against Hatboro-Horsham in a 41-0 final. The next week was not a whole lot better when they were only able to score a touchdown against Souderton in a 37-7 loss.

After those two harsh defeats, the Hawks had enough of being on the losing side and from the next week on out, they won go undefeated.

First, Norristown was the victim of the harrowing Hawks onslaught, as CR South defeated the Eagles 23-19.

The longitudinal schools of Central Bucks (that would be East and West) were no match for the Golden Hawks as, respectively, Council Rock won 31-14 and 42-21.

A week before they faced their latitudinal rival, they made sure they would go into that game with as much momentum as possible. Unfortunately for Tennent, they had to be the opponent for Council Rock South on October 26, 2007. In a shutout, the Hawks won the game 40-0.

Then they finished their undefeated second half of the 2007 season with a win over their North rivals in a close 42-37 game.

The Golden Hawks of Council Rock South are ready to start off the season the way they finished last season. Longitude, latitude, it does not matter; they want to be put on the map. A win over Central Bucks South Friday night on the 6abc.com Game of the Week will do just that.

The Hawks are ready to show that a Council Rock team can win on the Game of the Week.

The Hawks are ready to repeat their victory from 2005 over the Titans.

The Hawks are ready to seize the moment.
