Buys, sell, trade unwanted gift cards online

December 26, 2008

The cards are popular because they let you choose exactly the gift you want.

But what if you get a card to a store you don't like?

That's where giftcardrescue.com comes in.

Kwame Kuady, CEO of giftcardrescue.com, explains that his site buys unwanted gift cards for an average of 70 cents on the dollar. Sellers send the cards to the site in the mail, and once the value is verified, the site credits the amount into the seller's PayPal account.

The website then turns the cards around and re-sells them at a 15-20 percent discount.

Sellers get cash, buyers a get good deal and the quick turnaround has an added bonus... People aren't stuck with cards for stores that could be closing their doors.

Kuadey explains that that's what happened when Sharper Image declared bankruptcy. People were left holding about 20 million dollars in gift cards that couldn't be redeemed.

Giftcardrescue.com even offers a guarantee, in case of bankruptcy. If a store goes bankrupt within one year of when you purchase a gift card for that store from the site, the site will reimburse you the amount remaining on the card.
