Temple eases past Charlotte 80-53

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - January 24, 2009 Dionte Christmas added 12 points for Temple (11-7, 3-1 Atlantic 10), which won for the sixth time in seven starts.

Phil Jones scored 14 points and Ian Anderson and Lamont Mack added 12 each for Charlotte (6-12, 1-4), which has lost six of its last seven.

Temple started the game with a 24-6 run while the 49ers were making just two of their first 13 shots. Temple's lead reached 31-12 with four minutes left in the first half. The Owls led 37-16 at the break.

Charlotte, which shot 17-for-59, never got closer than 22 points in the second half.

Former Temple coach John Chaney and longtime team doctor Ray Moyer were honored at halftime. Both were inducted into the Temple Athletics Hall of Fame in an afternoon ceremony. Chaney had 516 wins and 17 NCAA tournament appearances in 24 years with the Owls.
